This 50-50 program will definitely give away money.
In celebration of the Community Foundation North Okanaganѻýs (CFNO) 50th anniversary, the foundation will award 50 Neighbourhood Small Grants ѻý one for each year of building stronger communities together.
Residents of the North Okanagan have the chance to turn their creative community-building ideas into reality with the return of CFNO's Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) program.
ѻýThese grants are about empowering everyday people to make a difference right where they live,ѻý said Lisa Deargle, community coordinator for the NSG program in the North Okanagan. ѻýWhether itѻýs a block party, cultural workshop, or hands-on learning session, we want to support ideas that help neighbours connect.ѻý
Applications are open for the month, closing April 30. Individuals can apply for up to $500 to support grassroots projects that foster connection, inclusion, and belonging in their neighbourhoods.
Past local projects have included:
ѻý Ukraine Independence Day celebration ѻý A community gathering in a local park that brought together newcomers and long-time residents in Vernon;
ѻý Outdoor movie nights ѻý Neighbours gathered for film, food, and fun in parks and community spaces;
ѻý Indigenous Culture Camp ѻý Indigenous knowledge keepers taught traditional practices like beading, basketry, and leatherwork, fostering cultural revitalization and reconciliation;
