The stage is being used to spark an often difficult conversation.
New Zealand's international touring production of Yes Yes Yes plays out at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre Friday, March 7 at 7 p.m.
Part confession, part documentary, part open conversation, Yes Yes Yes is a theatre show created with, and for 14-22-year-olds, that explores ѻýthe knotty and necessary topics of healthy relationships, consent, and desire.ѻý
Yes Yes Yes is a funny, generous and innovative piece of contemporary performance that speaks directly to one of the most pressing issues young people face today. It blends audience interaction with a captivating, award-winning solo performance by co-writer Karin McCracken.
ѻýOne of the most relatable, raw portrayals of how young people navigate consent,ѻý one student attests.
This latest work from award-winning duo McCracken and Eleanor Bishop blends audience interaction with a captivating solo performance, and features in-depth interviews with teenagers from around Aotearoa-New Zealand:
ѻýPerforming Yes Yes Yes requires me to be both an actor and a facilitator,ѻý describes McCracken. ѻýIѻým ѻýwithѻý the audience, thereѻýs no fourth wall. Iѻým sometimes asking them to think about things that are scary, as asking them to do things like get on stage with me. They can feel like big asks, so they need to trust me.ѻý
Bishop adds: ѻýThe belief that change comes from us empathizing with each otherѻýs stories. Theatre is really good at creating empathy because there is a person standing right in front of you.ѻý
