A home in Kelowna has suffered significant damage after an early morning house fire.
Around 5:30 a.m. on Friday, April 18, the Kelowna Fire Department (KFD) received calls of a structure fire in the 1000-block of Hickory Road.
Upon arrival, crews saw visible flames coming out of the back of the building and smoke throughout the home. Crews used "several" hose lines to douse the fire and ventilated the smoke. According to KFD, the basement suite suffered the most damage.
The five people in the house were able to get out safely, and were all treated by BC Emergency Health Services for smoke inhalation. Two people were transported to hospital for further assessment and treatment.
The cause of the blaze is unknown at this time and currently under investigation.
KFD attended the scene with four engines, a rescue unit, a command unit, and a safety unit, totalling 22 personnel. Kelowna RCMP and Fortis BC also attended.
