Prospective employers are on the hunt for workers in Vernon April 10.
The Vernon Job Fair, organized by NexusBC Community Resource Centre in partnership with WorkBC, is Vernonѻýs largest hiring event.
Recruiters and representatives from more than 20 actively hiring companies and colleges will be at the Vernon Lodge Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
ѻýThis is an excellent opportunity to discover what jobs are available and what employers are offering as compensation and benefits,ѻý says Lee Brinkman, NexusBC events and marketing manager.
ѻýLocal colleges will also be on site to answer questions and help provide career advice.ѻý
According to labour market reports, the Thompson-Okanaganѻýs unemployment rate went from 4.9 per cent in 2024 to 5.2 per cent in February 2025.
ѻýAs the competition for jobs increases, job fairs are an excellent way to get in front of the individual who does the hiring and make that connection,ѻý says Brinkman. ѻýIf youѻýre looking for work or considering a career or job change, this is the absolute best place to be.ѻý
Some pointers to keep in mind when attending a job fair:
ѻý Dress as if you are going to an interview;
ѻý Bring multiple copies of your resume;
ѻý Know your schedule and be ready to sign up for an interview;
ѻý Practice a 30-second sales pitch of your background;
ѻý Be prepared for the question ѻý tell me a bit about yourself ѻý and practice your response.
NexusBC is still taking registrations from employers wishing to participate in the job fair.
ѻýWe donѻýt have as many employers participating as in past years, but we still have over 20 and thatѻýs a great number,ѻý said Brinkman.
