In This Episode: Henri Belisle of TQ Construction and homeowner Dr Janet Simons are back to review the now-completed heritage renovation project. With the goal of achieving a high-performance energy efficiency home, Henri and Janet share lessons learned including design build challenges, scope creep, and even some pesky woodpeckers too.
ѻýWe built it the way we thought would be the best structurally, because thatѻýs what our instinct led us to do. But then going through it, we realized that if we had basically built the stair slightly off the wall, and properly sealed it there, we wouldnѻýt have lost as much air in the building through that one point.ѻý Henri Belisle, TQ Construction
ѻýThereѻýs always trade offs. Understanding what we are willing to trade off is important. Thereѻýs always going to be a judgment, is the builder going to talk to the client about this or are they going to make a call on the homeownerѻýs behalf because you canѻýt be calling 18 times a day for every decision. So, I think thereѻýs some calibration always that goes on there regarding communication.ѻý Dr Janet Simons, Homeowner.
