Elias Callgren scored twice as the West Kelowna Warriors stunned the Brooks Bandits with a 4-2 win to open the first round of the BCHL playoffs on Friday night, April 4.
In a quiet first period that featured no penalties and a total of 12 shots, Tyler Grahme opened the scoring for the Warriors with his first of the postseason at the 13:14 mark of the frame. Axel Lofgren collected an assist.
In the following frame, the Warriors exploded for three more goals to lead 4-0 after two. Callgren scored twice in the first 6:36 of the period while Joey Marcina added a goal late in the period. Marcina assisted Callgren's first goal while Callgren assisted Marcina's goal to give him a three-point night.
In the third period, Brooks got goals from Cooper Pierson and Dante Siciliano to cut the deficit in half but that's as close as they would get as the Warriors held on to take game one 4-2.
Édouard Gauthier made 21 saves to earn the game-one victory.
The two teams will hit the ice for game two of the seven-game series on Saturday night (April 5) at the Centennial Regional Arena in Brooks at 6 p.m. Pacific time.
