Do you have a household item in need of repair, donѻýt want to toss it out, but youѻýre stuck on how to go about fixing it?
A lamp on the fritz? Bicycle in need of repair? Clothes that need mending? Toaster that just wonѻýt toast?
If so, the Repair Café is just the event youѻýre looking for.
Hosted by the Regional Waste Reduction Office, the Repair Café takes place at the Okanagan College campus Centre for Learning Atrium on Saturday April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
ѻýWith the help of our talented volunteer fixers, weѻýre resurrecting the too good to toss mentalityѻýa shift from the throw-away to a fix-it society,ѻý said Rae Stewart, with the Regional Waste Reduction Office.
And itѻýs all free.
ѻýMost of our fixers are like-minded hobbyists who enjoy helping others and want to keep items out of the landfill,ѻý Stewart continued.
ѻýTheyѻýre all volunteering their time. They vary in age and background, just like those that come with broken items to be fixed.
ѻýThis is our fourth Repair Café so far, and momentum is really building with each event.ѻý
Stewart says the idea is not to come in, drop off your item for fixing, and then come back when itѻýs done, but instead to be part of the repair process. ѻýThe Repair Café offers the opportunity to learn new skills, plus a chance to connect with skilled people. Itѻýs a casual environment.ѻý
