Proposed Lakeshore Road apartment needs make-over says Kelowna council

Several councillors felt the building wasnѻýt aesthetically pleasing

The developers of an apartment proposed for The Mission neighbourhood have been asked to come up with a better-looking building.

Immortal Homes has plans for a four-storey, 20-unit apartment at 3593 Lakeshore Road near Boyce Gyro Beach Park.

Several councillors felt the building wasnѻýt aesthetically pleasing.

ѻýI think itѻýs incumbent on them also to make sure the building is attractive to the neighbours and I think that, at least from my assessment, it looks mundane and plain,ѻý Coun. Luke Stack said.

Coun. Maxine DeHart added that she was particularly concerned with the look of the east side of the building.

ѻýI think it looks like a hospital wall. I donѻýt think itѻýs acceptable. We want them (developer) here, but we also want the neighbourhood to thrive.ѻý

Staff told council that there were several discussions with the developer and that some changes have been made, but they (staff) were not overly happy with the form and character of the building.

Coun. Gord Lovegrove was also underwhelmed with the project.

ѻýThe intent is there but I think it has to give value back to the community.ѻý

Council deferred approval of a development permit to allow the applicant to work with staff and revise the project, with Lovegrove opposed.
