As rain drenches parts of the North Okanagan on election day, sports fields and ball diamonds in Coldstream and Vernon have been shut down to the weather.
Grass sports fields, including ball diamonds, are temporarily closed effective immediately, Monday, April 28.
The closure includes all sports play and public activities at the DND Park, Alexis Park, Grahame Park, Lakeview Park, Marshall Fields Park, Polson Park, MacDonald Park, Creekside Park, Coldstream Park and Lavington Park.
Due to prolonged rain on Monday, the ground has become saturated and use of these spaces could cause damage to the turf.
The Greater Vernon Athletics Park on College Way is not affected by the closure, a member of the district confirmed to The Morning Star.
Recreation Services will be contacting user groups directly to notify them of the closure. All sports fields and baseball diamonds will be evaluated again on Tuesday, April 29.
"The district appreciates everyoneÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™s understanding and thanks the public for staying off the playing fields today," the district said.
