Borne from being separated from his son while on a ski hill, a Westbank business ownerѻýs new GPS-tracking devices will now be available to use at Kelownaѻýs Big White Ski Resort.
Announced Friday (Dec. 15), skiKrumb devices are now available for pick up at Mountain Lifestyle Outlets on Highway 33 in Kelowna, with additional pick-up locations to be announced in the coming weeks.
The devices use real-time location data connected to cellphones through an app ѻý available on both the iPhone app store and Google Play store ѻý and provides updates every 10 seconds. They use long-lasting batteries and advanced technology that reaches where cellphones and other GPS-enabled trackers cannot, according to a release from the company.
ѻýAs an Okanagan parent who spent many days with my kids on the ski hill, I couldnѻýt be more excited to be launching skiKrumb at Big White Ski Resort this season,ѻý said Keith MacIntyre, founder and CEO of skiKrumb.
ѻýskiKrumb was borne from my experience of getting separated from my son on the ski hill several years ago, and after years of research and development, Iѻým pleased to be unveiling a solution that will help give parents peace of mind at the resort, and help keep fun the focus this season.ѻý
It also includes daily video replays, with highlights from runs skied throughout the day.
The devices are available for public rentals and both Big White and Pentictonѻýs Apex Mountain Ski Resort. They are also being used for Big Whiteѻýs Ski & Board School for all young skiers and riders during their lessons.
ѻýWorking closely with them, Iѻýve seen first-hand the fantastic and talented team at Big White. Iѻým impressed at the quality of their instructors, and the efficiency of getting hundreds of kids out on the hill at once is amazing. Now, with skiKrumb directly connected to the registration system, BWSS staff can see all of their classes live on the mountain.ѻý
