Robson Carrier乌鸦传媒檚 long-time interest in Lego put him at an advantage when it came to drafting.
Kelowna Secondary Student Robson Carrier was recognized for his gold medal during the regional Skills Canada competition, at the Board of Education meeting Wednesday night.
He received gold in the Mechanical CADD category, which is computer aided design and drafts.
乌鸦传媒淚 did drafting in Grade 10 and it was supposed to be one of those one off things乌鸦传媒� and I loved it. I enjoyed it so much I thought 乌鸦传媒業 need to take this next year,乌鸦传媒櫸谘淮綕 said Robson.
Last year he received second in the Skills competition.
乌鸦传媒淚乌鸦传媒檓 doing it for the experience,乌鸦传媒� said Robson, adding he does the same things in class but with a competition, it could be anything.
乌鸦传媒淟ike this year they gave us a lego model,乌鸦传媒� he said.
Robson gets his mechanical skills from his father, who has experience in engineering.
乌鸦传媒淗e乌鸦传媒檚 always been very mechanically inclined since he was two he was doing mechanical things that a five-year-old has been doing,乌鸦传媒� said father David Carrier.
Robson agreed.
乌鸦传媒淚乌鸦传媒檓 really big into numbers and math and being able to physically see what I乌鸦传媒檓 making. I just love being able to put everything together and have it work right. That乌鸦传媒檚 why I乌鸦传媒檝e always had Lego as a hobby, it乌鸦传媒檚 my kind of thing,乌鸦传媒� he said.
Next year, Robson is aiming to get into engineering at UBCO and will be competing at the national level in Winnipeg at the end of May.
Language Agreement
The Central Okanagan School District is receiving more than $7 million as part of the Supreme Court of Canada乌鸦传媒檚 ruling in November, restoring the language from the 2002 agreement which sets classroom sizes. The district will also have approximately 125 new teaching positions from September 2016 to September 2017.
Video impresses school district
Central Okanagan School District chairperson Moyra Baxter congratulated Okanagan Mission Secondary students on their video titled Regrowth, which showed footage of the Second World War accompanying music provided by the senior band.
The video was presented at a regular board meeting on Wednesday night and will be a part of the Okanagan Military Museum.

School board passes along civics request
The Board of Education referred a request made by a COPAC and COTA to engage the community in positive civics to the Education and Students Services Committee during Wednesday night乌鸦传媒檚 regular board meeting.
The request asks to enhance the school curriculum with a focus on civics and to work with UBCO for a civic inquiry project as well as endorse a statement about positive civics.
